OUR STORY
Maya Pet is part of the Priority IAC web of companies founded by Richard Breunig, a self-taught entrepreneur and Wisconsin dairy farmer who uncovered the impact of microbiology on the body's health and well-being.
In his years on the farm, Richard found that many of the issues his cows and other animals faced stemmed from the gut. That prompted him to spend almost a decade studying microbiology, where he learned about the microorganisms in the gut and built nutrition around them.
As it turns out, all species have similar problems centered around digestion. Pushed along in the process to learn more, Richard developed his findings on the profound impact on wellness, leading to the creation of the world's first Smart Strains™.
“Most of the time, our customers have heard about probiotics. They understand it's good bacteria. They ask if we’re like a probiotic, and I say, ‘Well, it's like a probiotic but here's where we're different,’ and then I'll get more into the details. What we do is take strains that have a specific mode of action. They're there for a reason, and we've studied the mode of action and stability. We're more detailed and pinpoint exactly what it is that our customers are giving their pets, most people connect with that. Generally, our customers are looking for another way to support their pet's gut and immune health, and they're very open-minded."
